Minister launches upgraded water infrastructure to improve water security for Rusterburg Local Municipality in the North West
South Africa’s Department of Water and Sanitation has handed over upgraded water infrastructure in parts of the North West and Limpopo provinces. The upgrades include expanded treatment capacity and a new bulk potable water pipeline, replacing aging systems and boosting delivery to rural communities such as Bethanie, Modikoe and Berseba.

The government of South Africa allocates R156.3 billion to the water and sanitation sector for water and sanitation. This investment will also cover the construction and upgrading of bulk infrastructure systems, which are essential for providing reliable water services to key economic areas, including mining operations, manufacturing facilities, and agricultural farms. These improvements aim to support industrial growth, enhance water security, and ensure sustainable resource management for these critical sectors of the economy.
