Government introduces the Malawi Electricity Access Project (MEAP).
Government, through the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) launched the Malawi Electricity Access Project (MEAP). The project is expected to provide electricity to 180,000 households. Among other things, the project introduced an instalment payment option where customers can pay an initial fee of K17,475 instead of the K 90,000 required amount. The project is funded by the World Bank.
