Zambian government has banned the production of charcoal in some areas saying that the practice is killing the environment. The government says the ban helps to protect what is left of the country's forestry.

Government has issued a ban on charcoal production permits in three districts namely &nbsp;Itezhi-tezhi, Mumbwa, and Shibuyunji as these were identified as hotspots for illegal tree cutting, contributing to widespread land degradation and deforestation. This ban will empower the institutions like the ministry of &nbsp;Green Economy and Environment to take against players in the industry with aim of reinvigorating the forests in Zambia. Minister Nzovu emphasized the critical role of trees in mitigating climate change hence the importance of the ban.
