Charcoal Production Ban Implemented in 3 Districts to Combat Climate Crisis

Government has issued a ban on charcoal production permits in three districts namely  Itezhi-tezhi, Mumbwa, and Shibuyunji as these were identified as hotspots for illegal tree cutting, contributing to widespread land degradation and deforestation. This ban will empower the institutions like the ministry of  Green Economy and Environment to take against players in the industry with aim of reinvigorating the forests in Zambia. Minister Nzovu emphasized the critical role of trees in mitigating climate change hence the importance of the ban.

HH forms ministerial team over Kabwe lead pollution

Hakainde Hichilema has formed an inter ministerial committee to find ways of mitigating the effects of lead pollution in Kabwe, with lead poisoning being an environmental health hazard caused by inhalation of lead particles generated by burning materials containing lead, for example during smelting, recycling, stripping leaded paint and plastic cables containing lead and using leaded aviation fuel and this move shows how the government is committed to invest in and empower institution in their efforts to tackle climate change a as Lead poisoning is a danger to both people and the environment.
